What are Nevada Oversize Permits?

Nevada requires oversize permits for vehicles and loads exceeding the standard legal size and weight limits on its roads. These licenses guarantee that huge loads be transported effectively and legally, while also security facility integrity and public safety.

– Nevada Single Trip Permits: These permits are issued for one-time travel within the state.
– Nevada Annual Permits: Offers long-term authority for the transportation of heavy loads on a regular basis.
– Nevada Overhang Permits: Control weights that extend beyond the front or rear of the vehicle.
– Nevada Overweight Permits: Allowance for loads that exceed regular weight limitations.
Nevada Permits: Nevada’s oversize permits are only valid for five days. A permit is necessary to enter the state.

Nevada Operating Hours: Travel is allowed from half an hour before sunrise to half an hour after sunset, with the following exceptions: Loads up to 12 feet broad, 15 feet high, and 110 feet long may be transported at night. Weekend travel is permitted for cargo up to 14 feet broad, 15 feet tall, and 110 feet long, except in the prohibited regions indicated below. Requests for overnight, weekend, and holiday travel are required.

Nevada Limited Travel: Weekend travel is permitted for loads that are more than 14 feet broad, 15 feet high, 110 feet long, and have an overhang of more than 15 feet. However, if the load exceeds 12 feet in width, movement is prohibited on I-80 between Reno and the California border, as well as I-15 between Las Vegas (Exit 33) and the California border. There are no weekend curfews in Las Vegas, Reno, or anywhere. Holiday travel licenses are often issued for loads up to 12 feet wide, 15 feet high, and 110 feet long.

Loads that surpass these dimensions are termed super loads.

In Nevada, 58,000-59,000 pounds is considered "bonus weight" for a tridem, and this allowance is currently limited to one or two tridems. Additional tridems are allowed to weigh around 51,000 pounds. A tridem drive on a tractor is eligible for additional weight (as one of the two tridems) if the distance between the steer axle and the center drive axle is at least 18 feet. Loads that exceed these dimensions are assessed on a case by case basis.

Signals, Flags, and Lighting:

Vehicles above 8′-6″ in width must show "Oversize Load" signs in both front and rear. Headlights should be turned to low structure, and signals should only be used when absolutely essential. Any overhang more than 4 feet must have a flag. Nevada Light Permits: A Nevada light permit is necessary to operate or travel with flashing rotating amber warning lights, even if they are turned off but not covered. To avoid a citation, an amber light that does not have a current permit must be covered (or removed). Seasonal Weight Restrictions: Spring thaw weight limitations apply to several secondary highways between February to April.
