What are Colorado Oversize Permits?

Colorado requires oversize permits for vehicles and loads exceeding the standard legal size and weight limits on its roads. These licenses guarantee that huge loads be transported effectively and legally, while also security facility integrity and public safety.

– Colorado Single Trip Permits: These permits are issued for one-time travel within the state.
– Colorado Annual Permits: Offers long-term authority for the transportation of heavy loads on a regular basis.
– Colorado Overhang Permits: Control weights that extend beyond the front or rear of the vehicle.
– Colorado Overweight Permits: Allowance for loads that exceed regular weight limitations.

Colorado Permits: Oversize permits in Colorado are valid for five consecutive travel days. A permit is necessary to enter the state.
Colorado Operating Hours: from half hour before sunrise until after half hour sunset. Loads up to 12 feet wide can move at night as long as they have the right lighting (see below for marks, flags, and lights). For night travel, loads bigger than 12 feet but less than 14 feet need a guard.
Colorado Limited Travel: The appendix that comes with the large permit lists the curfew times. The tallest thing that can be on I-70 at the Eisenhower Tunnel is 13 feet 11 inches. Over-height loads have to go around the tunnel on US6. If your load is bigger than 11 feet, you have to stop and ask for permission to go through the tunnel. bigger loads can still use it, though. Loads coming into or leaving Denver on city streets need a city pass, but Denver takes a long time to process these (about two to three days on average).

In addition to: If the load is too big to legally move with or without the blade, the dozer blade can be taken off and put on the same cart as the dozer. Colorado Chain Law: All business vehicles, including truck tractors, that drive on I-70 between Dotsero (milepost 133) and Morrison (milepost 259) from September 1 to May 31 must have enough chains to follow Colorado's chain law. Fines may be given for not following the rules. Tractor-trailers with tandem, tridem, or quad trailers that carry items that can be broken down and are heavier than the weight limit can now get permits. Loads that are too big or too heavy must have "Oversize Load" signs on the front and back of them. They aren't needed and shouldn't be used just for heavy loads. Wide or long loads need flags on all four sides and at the end of any extra 4 feet of length. For traveling at night with big loads, the front of the vehicle needs to have a bright orange light, and the back needs to have two or three of them. After dark, loads that are too long or have an overhang in the back (over 10 feet) can go with a bright amber light on the front of the car and one to three cluster lights on the overhang (red for rear overhang, amber for front overhang). For overnight overhang travel (10′ or less back overhang but more than 4′), the end of the load projection must have a red light or lamp that can be seen from 500 feet away.
